About Me
Hello! I’m Lisa Browning, the Education/District Director for Lamar Co. Soil & Water Conservation District. I have served in this capacity for the last 8 years. My primary job is to enhance conservation education in the area and bring resources to teachers and other community leaders. Before this, I worked as a classroom teacher for 21 years. My last 7 were at Purvis Middle where I was honored to be awarded the Teacher of the Year 2014-2015. I have also received other awards, including the Conservation Educator of the Year( 2019) from the Mississippi Wildlife Federation and MS Association of Conservation Districts Outstanding Employee of the Year (2023). I want you to know my background so you will feel comfortable having me visit your classroom or assist you in any way.

My Passion
I believe that education is one of the most important jobs on the planet! I love students, have a passion for nature, and want to support educators. I know teachers have limited time and resources to spend. We have quality materials and programs that will make teaching about the natural world more impactful and easier for you. I am your advocate. Many do not fully understand the struggles of education, how complex, and challenging it can be. I love helping teachers and connecting students with nature.
Free Resources
When I was in the classroom, I was not aware there were so many free resources available to schools in our area. We know students enjoy having speakers in the classroom who bring new hands-on lessons. This enhances their learning and can help the teacher. Lamar SWCD is available, along with many partner organizations such as: MS Wildlife Federation, MS Forestry Association, USDA/ NRCS, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, MS Soil & Water Conservation Commission, MSU Extension Office, MS Farm Bureau/Ag.in the Classroom, Adopt a Stream, and Keep MS Beautiful. We enjoy sharing our knowledge and being another tool in your tool box. I can help you get in contact with these professionals. We are FREE!! Please don’t hesitate to reach out.
