About Me
Hello! I’m Lisa Browning, the Education/District Director for Lamar Co. Soil & Water Conservation District. I have served in this capacity for the last 6 years. My primary job is to enhance conservation education and bring resources to teachers and other community leaders. Prior to that, I worked as a teacher for 21 years. My last 7 were at Purvis Middle where I was awarded the Teacher of the Year 2014-2015. I have also received other awards, including the Conservation Educator of the Year in 2019 from the Mississippi Wildlife Federation and MS Association of Conservation Districts Outstanding Employee of the Year 2023. I want you to know my background so you will feel comfortable having me visit your classroom or assisting you in any way.

My Passion
I believe that education is one of the most, if not, the most important job on the planet! I love students and have a passion for nature/science and want to support your science and nature curriculum. I know teachers have limited time and resources to spend. We have supplies and materials that you may borrow that will make teaching those science standards easier and more impactful. I am your advocate. Many do not fully understand the struggles of education, and how complex and challenging it can be. I love to support educators in any way possible.
Free Resources
When I was in the classroom, I was not aware there are so many free resources available to schools. We know students enjoy having speakers in the classroom and this enhances their learning. There are many wonderful resources in the area that you can take advantage of. I can help you find speakers and professionals who want to share their knowledge with future generations. Many organizations, such as MS Wildlife Federation, MS Forestry Association, USDA/ NRCS, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, MS Soil & Water Conservation Commission, MSU Extension Office, MS Farm Bureau/Ag.in the Classroom, Adapt a Stream, and Keep MS Beautiful, are examples of wonderful resources that are able to help teachers.
